Biology Instructor and Career Mentor
This is a full-time position that reports to the Vice President of Biotechnology Education Programs and works closely with the BioTeach team. This position can be modified for an experienced candidate seeking a part-time position.

The BioTeach team, through our training of life sciences teachers, helps engage students from an early age and lays the foundation for the workforce of tomorrow. With a particular focus on high-needs and underserved schools, BioTeach provides district-wide support to teachers by giving them the skills, resources, and mentoring necessary to design and implement authentic, hands-on, cutting-edge science.
Job Responsibilities
Provide Partner School District Support.
- Travel to middle and high schools in our partner districts in the Greater Boston and Metro West areas. Districts currently include Boston, Chelsea, Revere, Malden, and Stoughton, with new districts added annually.
- Provide in-person support to middle and high school classrooms engaged in labs and career awareness programs.
- With support from the BioTeach team, plan and implement on-going and new professional development programming for middle and high school science teachers.
- Schedule and organize on-site technical training visits to Massachusetts middle and high schools partnering with MassBioEd.
- Serve as district or school liaison and teacher, teacher mentor or coach to increase the quality and quantity of hands-on lab activities and innovative career awareness programing,which may require travel to school through the state.
- Onboard schools and districts involved in our life and career education program.
Student Programs
- Serve as a mentor to students in partner schools by offering after school enrichment activities and advice involving coursework, summer opportunities, and college or other training programs in the life sciences.
- Prepare and support industry volunteers to deliver career programming to school partners.
General Support
- Support the authoring and delivery of email and newsletter communications to stakeholders.
- Engage in MassBioEd signature events including the Workforce Development Conference and the Champions fundraiser.
- Participate in and support regional events relating to life science education to strengthen education community partnerships that increase the efficiency and impact of the programs.
- Work with the MassBioEd team to monitor, assess and evaluate the program impact using student and teacher feedback, focus groups and other appropriated measures
Job Requirements
- B.Sc. or Master’s degree in life sciences or life science education.
- 3 years or more of teaching secondary science in a traditional classroom setting.
- Familiarity with research and careers in the Biotechnology industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work accurately, with interruptions, to meet deadlines.
- Must be flexible and able to accommodate changes in assignments and priorities based on identified needs of the program and team.
- Computer literacy including strong Word processing, Excel, PowerPoint, database and web management skills sufficient to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, presentations, statistical/technical/scientific materials, etc. with speed and accuracy, including the willingness to learn and use new computer programs/applications.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Salary and Benefits
