MassBioEd's 2009 Annual Report

What a year! As an organization, MassBioEd faced many of the same economic challenges the biotechnology industry faced in 2009. But we faced those challenges head on are are proud of the programs we offered and services we provided to thousands of teachers, students, and industry representatives last year. Spring 2010 programs are now open and spaces are available!

  • Biotechnology Project Management - Begins February 3
    This in-depth seminar examines critical aspects of project management, including an overview of the drug development process and regulatory agencies. Participants learn to use tools and strategies for working in a team environment to analyze risk, allocate resources, track projects, resolve conflicts, make decisions, and manage management.

  • An Overview of Clinical Research - Begins February 25
    This in-depth program examines the many details that must be considered in the clinical research process, including Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and corporate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Program faculty are practicing professionals who have spent years as part of clinical research teams in biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.

  • Leadership Training Program for Scientists - Begins March 15
    Participants of this course can look forward to improving their performance and comfort in leadership opportunities, while participants’ organizations can strengthen partnering and communications between participants and the customers, users, and staff with whom they work. This course features 360 surveys for each participant to provide objective information about how key others perceive their communications effectiveness.

    Life Sciences Talent Initiative study released

    Academia, industry and government collaboration key to preparing for growing life sciences workforce in the Commonwealth

    The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center embraced a study that says Massachusetts must improve, expand and tailor its educational programs and resources designed to prepare students and workers for jobs in life sciences sector, at a board meeting today. The study lays out recommendations to ensure the life sciences industry will have the talent it needs to grow in the Commonwealth over the next decade.

    Educating Biotechnicians for Future Industry Needs

    How to strengthen technician education to meet the needs of the biotechnology industry was the question before the 50 people who participated in the Educating Biotechnicians for Future Industry Needs conference from April 28 to 30 in Scottsdale, Ariz. The participants were from higher education, secondary schools, industry, government, and professional organizations. This report summarizes their findings.
