This workshop is self-paced and the assignments will be submitted online. However, you are required to attend the workshop introduction, scheduled for May 19th, 4-5 PM EST and the office hours scheduled for May 26, 3:30 -5 PM EST.
This interactive workshop will teach basic bioinformatics concepts and applications using the genome of the SARS-CoV-2 as a starting point. After the workshop introduction on May 19th, participants will work asynchronously on the assignments to gain hands-on experience with NCBI databases, genome browsers, and a variety of specialized tools for predicting protein function from a sequence. Instructors are available for support during asynchronous work. Participants will share progress during office hours on May 26, 3:30 -5 PM EST. We will use publicly available data and free web-based programs. No coding required.
This workshop qualifies for 10 hours towards Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Professional Development Points.
