College & Career Exploration Mentor

h

College & Career Exploration Day is designed to expose students to the career opportunities within the life sciences industry, while providing an understanding of the connection between their academic choices and career path. The event will showcase a wide array of educational opportunities and diverse fields of study in college life sciences programs. Through rapid-paced mentoring sessions, students will learn first-hand from industry volunteers about their unique qualifications, educational backgrounds, and interests that brought them to biotechnology and the contribution each of their roles make in this evolving industry.

If you are interested in serving as a volunteer mentor or would like to learn more, please complete the Volunteer Registration Form.

A Mentor should be prepared to:

  • Provide a brief presentation on what they do in the field, for what organization, and how that organization aspires to positively impact lives,
  • Discuss the life sciences in general and share their own experiences within the field,
  • Reflect on their personal journey and how they got to where they are today,
  • Allow time for questions from students,
  • Provide a demonstration or activity.

The BioTeach team is willing to provide volunteers with any feedback or ideas torwards their presentation and how to engage the students.

What made the mentoring sessions valuable was that the volunteers focused on providing information on actual jobs instead of just college information. They asked questions about us too, while not making the conversation all about us. A lot of them were well prepared.
