Description

Intro to Biotech, Business & Science provides a comprehensive introduction to both the business and scientific foundations of the biotechnology and life sciences industry. Designed to offer a big-picture understanding of how biotech organizations operate, the course can be taken as a combined experience or as standalone Business or Science modules, depending on participants’ interests and goals.

The Business portion introduces core business considerations in biotech, including regulation, market dynamics, phases of development, patient populations, and safety profiles. Through instruction, real-world storytelling, and small-group discussion, participants gain insight into how strategic and regulatory decisions shape biotech companies.

The Science portion focuses on foundational biological concepts, including cell biology and molecular biology, to support a deeper understanding of how life science companies function. Participants explore key scientific principles that underpin drug discovery and development, with hands-on lab work included during in-person sessions to reinforce learning and practical application.

Together, these modules provide participants with a well-rounded framework for understanding how science, business, and regulation intersect across the biotech ecosystem.

Who should attend? This course is designed for a broad audience, including individuals who are new to the biotechnology or life sciences industry, those transitioning from another scientific or professional field, and professionals seeking a stronger foundational understanding of either the business, the science, or both. It is particularly well suited for participants who want to understand how their role fits into the larger biotech landscape and how scientific innovation moves from concept to organization and market.

Participants looking to deepen their understanding of the biotech industry may benefit from Finance of Biotechnology, Drug Development Pathways, or Biotechnology Project Management, which expand on financial decision-making, the drug development lifecycle, and project execution within life sciences organizations.
