Mentoring Adult Apprentices, Ongoing

We are seeking industry professionals to serve as mentors to apprentices in our Life Sciences Apprenticeship Program. This program trains work-ready adults for jobs in several life sciences career pathways. The program provides intensive, accelerated training followed by a 12-month full-time position at a local biotechnology company. Mentors will be matched in pairs or small groups of apprentices to provide guidance and perspective as they go through their year of on-the-job training. Mentors commit to spending an hour a month (or ½ hour twice a month) over Zoom or Teams with 1-4 apprentices for at least a year. Please contact us apprenticeship@massbioed.org for more information

Career Panels For High Schoolers

Inspire and guide the next generation of life science leaders! As a panelist, you share your career journey, challenges you may have encountered, and the skills needed to succeed. We seek professionals at all levels from across the entire life sciences industry, representing a wide range of roles, sectors, and career pathways. Career panels consist of a short panel discussion followed by small group Q&A. Panels typically take place in the afternoon at our partner schools and require a 90-minute commitment. No training or preparation needed!

Support Hands-On Activities

Assist our BioTeach Instructors as they deliver hands-on biotech labs to high schoolers as part of our Access Biotechnology after school program. Help students learn how to use basic biotech techniques to diagnose diseases, explore inheritance, and solve crimes. Connect with students and share your personal career journey. Activities typically take place in the afternoon at our partner schools. Experience in basic lab techniques such as micropipetting, gel electrophoresis and PCR are a welcome but not required. Any necessary training will be provided on the day of the event. This is a 90-minute commitment.

Inspire Educators: Build Life Science Career Awareness at a Teacher Workshop

Join the BioTeach team for a Teacher Professional Development workshop and empower teachers to bring real-world experiences into the classroom.  By sharing your experience, you will help educators connect science lessons to careers and inspire students with authentic examples. Time commitments and locations vary depending on the workshop. No preparation or training needed.

Become a Life Sciences Industry Champion

MassBioEd’s College to Career Program and Life Sciences Workforce Conference build industry partnerships with 2-year and 4-year public colleges resulting in life sciences job attainment and persistence for college students from under-represented communities. We are seeking industry volunteers who will work with MassBioEd and a college to 1) plan career awareness activities for students and faculty, 2) recruit colleagues to volunteer and 3) advocate for the partnership within their company. The champion will bring the company’s goals and perspective to the planning process.  If you are interested in more information, please contact John Brothers at C2C@massbioed.org
