Complete three different gel electrophoresis labs that explore Mendelian genetics. In this full-day workshop, you will use pre-prepared DNA samples and dye samples to explore the alleles of the b-globin gene responsible for sickle cell disease and trait and the alleles of the genes responsible for coat length in dogs or milk proteins in cows. We will model how you can create your own genetics labs using purchased DNA fragments or dyes.

Massachusetts teachers that complete the workshop and submit a pre- and post-workshop assignment are eligible for 10 PDPs.

All participants can borrow a classroom set of pipettes and electrophoresis equipment to use in their classrooms.

Lunch is provided and parking is free.
