Genes in Space Teacher Workshop

This event has ended. We hope to see you at a future event. See upcoming events here: https://www.massbioed.org/events

In this hands-on workshop, teachers will develop skills to excite and engage their students by bringing the cutting edge of biology and space exploration into their classroom. For decades, the tools of biotechnology and DNA analysis have been difficult to implement in classrooms. The miniPCR DNA Discovery System is an innovative biotechnology teaching toolkit that closes this gap.

miniPCR and partners have created Genes in Space, a free science competition where teachers and students can design DNA research proposals for space. Students have the opportunity to engage in self-directed learning and develop a biotechnology research proposal focused on their own interests and ideas. Winners have their experiments launched to the International Space Station and become involved in real-world space biology research.

Join us and learn how to engage your students with Genes in Space and immerse yourself in real-world uses of biotechnology, and develop skills to implement hands-on biotechnology with your students. We'll also share how to obtain free loans of miniPCR "Lab in a Box" equipment and reagents.

Please note that this workshop does not qualify for PDPs, but we can provide a certificate of completion.
