The Wolbachia Project (Cambridge)

This event has ended. We hope to see you at a future event. See upcoming events here: https://www.massbioed.org/events

Experience the next generation of the Wolbachia Project which, for over 10 years, has introduced real-world scientific research into high school biology labs and lesson plans with inquiry, discovery, biotechnology, and a culture of excellence.

Wolbachia is a bacterium that infects insects and is currently being tested as a biological agent to combat Dengue Fever and Zika outbreaks.  Participants will complete a revised, inexpensive PCR protocol for determining if insects are infected with the bacteria and receive reagents to do the investigation with their students.
