Exploring Personal Genetics with PCR (Cambridge)

Participants will isolate their own DNA, use PCR to amplify the gene responsible for the ability to taste bitter compounds, and analyze the PCR products by restriction enzyme analysis and electrophoresis. Complete a lab that simulates the identification of individuals based upon the D1S80 VNTR (variable number tandem repeats) locus.

Participants will receive student lab protocols, teacher instruction manuals, and curricular support resources to implement these labs in the classroom. This workshop qualifies for 10 PDPs based upon completion of the designated assessments.

To meet the MIT oversite and safety requirements, participants are required to attend a safety training which begins at 8:30 am sharp.
