Champions 2016 header

Join us as we recognize champions of biotechnology education at this inaugural MassBioEd reception!

This event is reception-style, featuring a jazz trio, passed hors d’oeuvres, food stations, and hosted bar.  A silent auction and reception will be followed by a short speaking program during which three honorees will receive their awards.  Speakers will include Bob Coughlin, President and CEO of MassBio, James Peyser, Massachusetts Secretary of Education, Jay Ash, Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Economic Development, and Ryan Mudawar of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center.

Join us to congratulate our 2016 Awardees!

Mike Bonney, former CEO of Cubist Pharmaceuticals, is being honored in the inaugural year of this award for his ardent support as head of Cubist for biotechnology-related educational programming in our public schools, as well as his significant contributions as an advocate for STEM workforce development and his personal contributions to education in general.

EMD Serono will be receiving a Champions award as an organization for its significant support for life sciences education in Massachusetts schools and its historic support for MassBioEd’s BioTeach program specifically. The award will be accepted by Gary Zieziula, President and Managing Director of EMD Serono.

Jonathan Shapiro, a science teacher at Brockton High School and graduate of the BioTeach program, will be honored for his role in the conception and development of a four-year biotechnology program at Brockton High School and his continuing efforts to grow the program.

Who else is coming?  Sanofi Genzyme, Biogen, EMD Serono, Tesaro Bio, bluebird bio, Dimension Therapeutics, Editas Medicine, WPI, Takeda Oncology, Tufts University, Spero Therapeutics, MilliporeSigma, Shire, Regis University, and many more!

All event proceeds support MassBioEd's BioTeach program, which last year provided lab-based training to 185 teachers from 109 schools, giving 10,400 additional Massachusetts high school students a chance to learn new lab lessons in biotechnology.
