You Are What You Eat: Investigating Macromolecules

Much of our food comes directly from plants and animals. Plants and animals are composed of cells, and all cells have four major types of large, complex molecules called macromolecules: carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. You may not have realized it, but how much protein, carbohydrate, fat, and fiber a food contains all comes down to biochemistry. In this lab, you will isolate different macromolecules from lima beans and corn.
