About Karla

Karla joined the MassBioEd team in 2018 as the Manager of Labor Market Research, and now serves as the Director of Apprenticeship and Workforce Initiatives. As the head of MassBioEd’s BioTalent programming, her mission is to expand the life sciences workforce. She has developed and launched two Registered Apprenticeship programs which will create pathways for new talent to enter the industry. Karla oversees the analysis of employment and hiring data, enhancing the metrics with industry insight to provide actionable information to a range of stakeholders. She also oversees the Career Exploration Program, bridging the gap between educators and employers to provide authentic career guidance to the next generation of life scientists. Prior to joining MassBioEd, Karla worked both in the biotechnology industry and in academia. Karla holds a BA in Chemistry from Smith College, an MS in Biotechnology, and an MBA from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She is passionate about increasing scientific literacy among children and adults.
