The STEM Scholar Intern Matching Fund: Strengthening Your Company While Strengthening the Commonwealth
April 21, 2008 |
Ensuring a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workforce is a key element in the long-term economic success of the Commonwealth. The Massachusetts Department of Higher Education (DHE) has recently established the STEM Scholar Intern Matching Fund as an important way to help develop future STEM employees.
The goal of the DHE Scholar Intern program is to encourage Massachusetts’ college students in STEM majors to stay in Massachusetts and build their careers. DHE funds will be used to match scholarships and paid internships in order to retain students in these important STEM fields, to expedite the achievement of a degree, and to reduce the cost of their education at a Massachusetts institution of public higher education.
The DHE is searching for companies that will work to develop this program. Your company can participate by offering a scholarship, a paid internship, or both to a Massachusetts student. You may already be giving a scholarship or paid internship. The Department of Higher Education will provide a match for scholarships and internships up to $5,000 per student, beginning in the student’s sophomore year, for three years.
As an employer, your company contributes to the success of the Massachusetts economy. The future of your company’s growth in Massachusetts will depend on the pipeline of STEM talent. Be one of the companies that teams up with some of the brightest talent in the Commonwealth as part of the STEM Scholar Intern program.
