Discover the Microbes Within!: The Wolbachia Project is a HHMI pre-college education program which includes a workshop, a loaner program and support for summer research for teacher/student pairs. The objective is to bring real-world scientifc research into the classroom through a series of integrative labs focusing on a bacterial endosymbiont, Wolbachia, that infects ~20% of insects. Topics covered include ecology, biodiversity, molecular methods and bioinformatics. The next workshop will be held 23-25 April 2010 in Woods Hole, MA, and the application deadline is 11 Jan.
